Donation for every order of SynergEyes hybrid contact lenses for a week

SynergEyes UK will be donating £1 to charity for every SynergEyes hybrid contact lens order placed during the week starting on February 26.

The initiative is in aid of the eye research charity, Fight for Sight and has been inspired by the Kera-toconus Group supporting Rare Disease Day on February 28.

Rare Disease Day is held on the last day of February, a month known for having a rare number of days. It was first celebrated in 2008 on 29 February as the date occurs only once every four years.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among the public and decision-makes about the impact of rare diseases on patients’ lives.

Rare Disease Day now takes place in 94 countries. The theme for the 2018 campaign is research, which is why SynergEyes UK chose Fight for Sight as the charity to benefit from its contact lens initiative. If left untreated, keratoconus can lead to significant visual impairment and legal blindness. It is found in all parts of the world and in all ethnic groups.

According to the National Eye Institute's published data, keratoconus affects about one in 2,000 people and can therefore be considered a rare disease. However, the Keratoconus Group is warning that the condition could be much more prevalent according to recent studies but highlights that Rare Disease Day offers a great opportunity to help spread awareness.
SynergEyes has a range of hybrid lenses specifically designed for keratoconus and works with hun-dreds of UK hospitals and specialist contact lens clinics.

The company is helping to transform patients’ lives with UltraHealth, one of the most advanced technology hybrid contact lenses for keratoconus and post-refractive surgery patients.
Hans Sunassee, sales manager of SynergEyes UK, said: “Raising awareness of this progressive disease that affects thousands of people every day is hugely important.

“Diagnosis can be devastating and understanding treatment options for the treatment of kerato-conus, and knowing that there is hope for you, is the most important part of living with this progressive disease.”

Mr Sunassee added: “SynergEyes hybrid contact lens are specifically designed for the treatment of keratoconus and other corneal irregularities, from the complex through to a standard astigmatic presbyope."

“Last year we undertook a series of training events around the UK to demonstrate the versatility of hybrid lenses. Now we are offering practitioners the opportunity of having one of our professional services consultants come into their practice, where we’ll run a complimentary ‘hands-on’ workshop, demonstrating just how easy these products are to fit and how easy it is to manage these patients long term.” “We know from patient testimonials just how transformed a patient’s life can be wearing these fantastic lenses,” he concluded.

As well as donations from contact lens sales during the week, SynergEyes UK is taking part in a social media campaign to raise awareness of rare diseases and is encouraging practitioners to do the same.

The Keratoconus Group is urging people to post an image or selfie on any social media channel with their face painted and including the hashtags #ShowYourRare, #MyRare or #RareDiseaseDay. Supporting campaign materials can be found on the website www.rarediseaseday.org.

Last year SynergEyes UK raised £197 for its chosen charity, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, by donating £1 for every SynergEyes hybrid contact lens order placed during the week surrounding World Keratoconus Day on November 10.
